"We had an amazing time at Red Wolf Falls!  Originally we had trouble deciding where we would go for our Honeymoon- Colorado? Out of the country?  But time and time again we were pleasantly surprised with this unique beautiful cabin!  We are extremely happy we chose to come here.  We are sad to be heading home but have already talked about coming back to celebrate many of our anniversaries.  Thank you for building this beautiful cabin- every detail was amazing!"  Mr & Mrs White, Wooster, OH

"You have found a lifetime fan!"  Ash & CJ - Hilliard, OH

Our cabin is named in honor of the Red Wolf.  It is one of the world's most endangered species.  Only seventeen red wolves remained in 1973.  Today they number around 300 due to recovery efforts.  The original range of the Red Wolf extended throughout the southeast and as far north as the Ohio River Valley.

The Cherokee Indians called the Red Wolf "Wa ya".  It is one of two species of wolves in North America, the other being the gray wolf.  As their name suggests, red wolves are known for the characteristic reddish color of their fur.  They form pair bonds for life with a pack consisting of their offspring.  There have been no documented cases of healthy wild red wolves attacking humans in North America, despite 500 years of historical coexistence.

Red Wolf Falls donates to the Red Wolf Coalition, an organization dedicated to the conservation of red wolves.

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or birds of the air and they will tell you; or speak to the earth and it will instruct you, or let the fish of the sea inform you.  Which of all of these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this?  In His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.  Job 12:7-10

"We had a Coalition board meeting and I told the board about your generous commitment to red wolf conservation.  I showed them your web site and wonderful pictures of the cabin.  They all agreed that it is a place we would love to visit.  Thank you for your incredible generosity!" Kim Wheeler, Executive Director, The Red Wolf Coalition-Columbia, NC

  Our Green Statement

It is our desire and pledge to leave the environment better than we found it.  As consumers of the earth's resources we consider it our responsibility to reduce the impact that we have on the environment.  Supporting red wolf conservation in the United States, recycling the lumber obtained from our log home site, reducing energy consumption and incorporating earth friendly and biodegradable products in our cleaning process and maintenance of our log cabin are steps we have taken in our Green Approach.

"On a crisp, clear night in eastern North Carolina, a group of tourists stands among soft shadows thrown by a three-quarter moon. They're here to hear, to use Walt Whitman's words, the "barbaric yawp" of a creature that had once been lost to the wilds and only recently reintroduced- the Red Wolf.  Suffering from habitat loss, indiscriminate hunting and the spread of the western coyote to the East, red wolves were so badly depleted that wildlife experts in 1980 decided to capture the last wild red wolves.  Now with a captive-breeding/reintroduction program in full swing in North Carolina, more than 100 of these animals now roam the wild, with hopes of more to come.  The return of the red wolf is news worth howling about!"  Bill Updike, Defenders Magazine.  With your help we can work to save an imperiled creature from extinction through conservation and ensure the health of our natural ecosystems.  We are all stewards of the Earth.  Lets strive to improve and protect the world we leave our children and grandchildren.

The Jubach Company takes a very green approach in their building process.  They create a log home that is energy efficient and offers an R value over 50% higher than that of conventional homes!  Every measure is taken to protect the surrounding forest and to only remove trees that must be cleared for the construction of the log home.  Any lumber they obtain throughout the building process is recycled.  The lumber taken from our building site is used in flooring, hand peeled rafters, paneling and tie logs. We utilized the pine tree on our construction site to make our great room tie logs.  The Jubach Company not only protects our Green Earth but brings it right to you at Red Wolf Falls!

We encourage our guests to join us on our journey to Go Green.  Ways our guests can help:  Be conscientious of energy consumption sources during your stay by turning off lights and enjoying the abundance of natural light that the cabin offers through skylights and many windows, limiting use of natural gas logs, shutting off faucets when not in use, reusing bath towels when practical, closing outside doors and keeping heat and air conditioning at reasonable temperatures.  Although our area does not have access to curbside recycling, we encourage our guests with access to a home program to recycle glass, plastic and paper items during their stay.  Red Wolf Falls also provides plenty of opportunity for amazing hiking adventures to enjoy nature and take in the fresh air without ever getting behind the wheel of a car.  In working together and doing our part to protect the environment we all benefit from a better and greener earth!   Thanks for your help!!

"We love your cabin and love that you have green cleaning supplies!"  Dave & Serena

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if
I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, to discover that I had not lived. - Henry David Thoreau
